Assisted-living Center Accused Of Neglect

As people in New Mexico and across the country age or experience a serious medical condition, families are often unable to provide the care that they need. While it is important to ensure that proper care is taken of any person requiring medical care, it is often especially important for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities because of their impaired physical condition. It is also necessary to ensure that measures are taken to prevent the development of potential environmental hazards and to take prompt action if those preventative measures fail.

Unfortunately, an assisted living facility in another state is facing a great deal of scrutiny following accusations made both by people who have family members living in the community in addition to former employees. For example, one woman claims that her husband was left covered in mucus, including finding it dried in his hair. She further claims that his entire body was wet.

Additionally, pictures taken by a former employee claim to show mold in the facility. The employee claims that she notified management about the mold, but no action was taken. A post on the assisted living facility’s home page claims that the mold was found in only one room, and no patient or staff member was harmed by it.

Families who make the difficult decision to have the care needs of dependent family members met by those at a nursing home or other similar facility do so with the understanding that appropriate care will be provided. Additionally, they have the reasonable expectation that the physical facility will be maintained in such a way as to not create further hazards from the home. If harm comes as the result of negligence, victims have the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit against those deemed responsible, potentially including individual care provider, the company that owns the facility and/or those that run it. An attorney with experience with the inner workings of facilities such as these can help victims in New Mexico seek the justice that they deserve.
