Woman Alleges Nursing Home Neglect In Death Of Her Grandmother

Many people experience a period in life where they are no longer capable of caring for themselves. There are various establishments that offer treatment for patients who are in a similar situation. Many patients in New Mexico reside in these facilities and count on receiving the level of care required. If certain standards are not met, the results can be catastrophic. Alleging nursing home neglect, a woman has recently filed a lawsuit against a facility after the death of her grandmother.

The deceased was admitted to the facility for care late in February of last year. Reportedly, while at the care center, the patient suffered injuries due to falls, along with other various medical conditions. She passed away just over a month later. Her granddaughter is accusing the establishment of failing to provide a safe environment for patients to live in and failing to properly monitor and assist residents.

When someone is under the permanent care of a facility, he or she often requires constant supervision. Many nursing homes are built on the basis of being able to provide patients with the level of treatment they require. If an accident occurs leading to serious injury and/or death, the responsible party may be held accountable if it is found to be negligent in the care of the patient involved.

Losing a loved one can create many hardships for a family. Along with the emotional grief of such a loss, medical and funeral costs put them under significant financial burdens. If this occurs as a result of nursing home neglect, families of victims may seek restitution through a claim against the wrongful party. Since this can be complex, families in New Mexico often speak with an experienced attorney for assistance in navigating the process.
