Nursing Home Neglect Suit Filed Following Woman’s Death

Injuries can easily happen in New Mexico nursing homes if the staff fail to take the necessary steps to keep residents safe. Unfortunately, one woman in another state recently died after being in a nursing home. A nursing home neglect lawsuit has been filed against the facility that was caring for her, alleging negligence as well as inadequate measures are taken to keep her from becoming injured.

An administrator of the woman’s estate filed the complaint after she claimed that the facility did not provide appropriate care to the woman. While there, the woman allegedly experienced multiple medical conditions, such as sepsis and skin breakdown. According to the lawsuit, the nursing home did not correctly evaluate the woman’s condition.

The nursing home is also accused of not providing medical attention to the woman immediately when she began to show sepsis symptoms. The woman is seeking judgment against the nursing facility. She is specifically seeking an amount that is adequate for satisfying the court’s jurisdictional requirements, along with any extra relief that the court grants.

Neglect remains a serious problem in today’s nursing homes, as elderly individuals — who are already vulnerable to harm — are the individuals usually placed in these types of facilities. If an elderly loved one in New Mexico ends up being hurt and dying as a result of nursing home neglect, the person’s surviving loved ones have the right to seek justice through the civil court system. If liability is satisfactorily established in civil court, monetary damage claims could be adjudicated.
