Nursing Home Neglect Suit Filed After Death Of Injured Woman

When residents of nursing homes in New Mexico are improperly cared for or neglected, the nursing homes may be held liable for any injuries or deaths that occur as a result. In one out-of-state case, a resident of a nursing home recently died due to the alleged negligence of the staff at the home. A nursing home neglect suit has thus been filed by the woman’s estate administrator against the nursing home on her behalf.

The independent administrator of the deceased woman’s estate alleges that the nursing facility violated the state’s nursing home care act. According to his complaint, the woman suffered from Alzheimer’s disease as well as chronic kidney disease. She also suffered from anemia and hypertension.

Between late 2013 and early 2014, the woman reportedly suffered from a total of three falls while she was unsupervised in her room. She also ended up bruising her forehead and had pressure wounds in the areas of her buttocks and sacrum. The plaintiff said these injuries hastened the woman’s death.

As part of the plaintiff’s nursing home neglect suit, the man is seeking damages of more than $50,000. He is also seeking a jury trial. When a nursing home staff’s failure to properly tend to a patient in New Mexico contributes to the patient’s death, the surviving loved ones of the patient have the right to seek justice through the legal system. Monetary compensation may not be able to restore the life of a deceased loved one, but it may help to bring closure to the family members during their difficult ordeal.
