Nursing Home Neglect May Occur Due To Poor Staff Training

Nursing homes in New Mexico offer services that require a reasonable degree of care with regard to meeting the needs of residents. However, sometimes nursing home neglect happens, which can lead to serious injuries to patients. In some cases, it can even lead to death.

One common complaint of residents in nursing homes is that they receive inadequate service from the staff. Residents usually rely on nursing home staff in manners that cause them to feel vulnerable. If an emergency happens, the length of time it takes for a staff member to respond may have a huge impact on a resident’s well-being.

The fact that staff members are often undertrained may also lead to complaints by residents and/or their families. Residents have often expressed anxiety in connection with staff who lack adequate training. In fact, one out of three residents in nursing facilities suffers from medication-related errors as a result of overworked or undertrained staff. Many residents have also reported that they are afraid that staff lacks the training needed to properly operate lifting equipment.

When a nursing home fails to provide a high degree of care and causes a resident to be injured or die as a result, the injured party has the right to file a nursing home neglect claim. Likewise, the surviving loved ones of a deceased resident may opt to file a wrongful death claim, pursuing monetary damages. Competent proof of negligence is necessary to establish financial responsibility in a manner that pleases the court in the state of New Mexico.
