Brain injuries can easily take a toll on a person’s life, whether in New Mexico or elsewhere. A brain injury victim, for example, may have trouble recalling new information, experience blurry vision, or struggle with vomiting and nausea. Experts recently suggested that moving around soon after suffering a brain injury, such as one incurred in a serious accident, may actually help to improve the health conditions of an accident victim.
One nurse recently said she noticed that many of her brain injury patients often spent time in their beds. She knew that patients suffering from other types of injuries typically benefited from getting out of bed and moving around early on, so she wondered whether this was also true for brain injury patients. In the past, doctors typically thought that rest was better for the brain when a patient had a brain injury.
However, research shows that movement helps to reduce swelling as well as blood-clot risk and inflammation. It also increases circulation and speeds up healing, although moving around too quickly may actually make things worse. A recent research study, however, showed that early rehabilitation may ultimately allow patients to spend less time in intensive care units and in hospitals after suffering an injury to the brain.
A brain injury can happen as a result of head trauma occurring in a serious accident involving vehicles or in a slip-and-fall accident, for example. If the injury is the result of another party’s negligence, the injured victim in New Mexico has the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against that party. Competent proof of negligence is required to establish financial liability in such a case. Once achieved, a judge will adjudicate claims for specific items of monetary damages.
