Brain injury can have a negative effect on the quality of life of an individual in New Mexico, causing memory and attention issues, among other problems. Unfortunately, traumatic brain injury brings more than 2.5 million people to emergency rooms every year. However, one study recently revealed that near-infrared light may be an effective treatment for this type of catastrophic injury.
The study took place between 2011 and 2013 and involved 10 individuals who were suffering from mild or moderate brain injury. Each patient got several transcranial applications of light that lasted fewer than 60 minutes every time. The purpose of this type of light treatment is to re-energize dormant or damaged brain cells.
This type of light is known for providing deep penetration into the brain, at least 3 centimeters. This penetration in the study produced a significant decrease in the patient’s depressive symptoms. In addition, there were no undesirable side effects reported. The researchers said the benefits of this type of treatment can last up to four years.
Growing research in the field of brain injury may give hope to those suffering from this type of catastrophic injury. Traumatic brain injuries can happen as a result of a New Mexico motor vehicle collision or another type of accident where a person experiences an unexpected jolt on impact. If another individual’s negligence caused the incident, the victim has the right to file a personal injury claim against that party. A civil court judge or jury will decide the brain injury victim’s monetary damages claims once liability has been established by a measure of proof characterized as a preponderance of the evidence.
