Serious Accident May Lead To Brain Injuries Requiring Treatment

Brain injuries can take a toll on a person’s memory and on his or her sense of self-confidence. These types of injuries can result from a serious accident in New Mexico, such as a vehicle crash or a slip-and-fall accident on someone’s property. Medical experts recently revealed that hyperbaric medicine, however, may be helpful in improving the memory of brain injury victims.

Hyperbaric medicine is a device that can control atmospheric pressure. A person who has suffered injury to the brain may experience improved memory after completing several sessions of hyperbaric medicine. In fact, former professional football player Joe Namath completed 120 sessions lasting between 40 minutes to 60 minutes each to enhance his memory.

This type of medicine was originally used to treat Caisson Disease or “the bends” from which divers end up suffering. After researchers began to realize that hyperbaric medicine could be useful for treating people outside of the diving community as well, they began to explore it further. Studies have been completed on soldiers who have a traumatic brain injury, although it remains unclear whether or not hyperbaric treatment can truly be effective in their cases.

If a person in New Mexico has suffered a traumatic brain injury in a serious accident because another driver was careless behind the wheel or because a property owner was negligent, the victim has the right to file a personal injury claim against the allegedly responsible party. If the case is litigated successfully, awarded damages may help to pay for the victim’s ongoing brain injury-related medical costs. Financial restitution may also help to address emotional distress caused by the potentially life-changing incident.
