Anyone who uses New Mexico roadways knows they could potentially become harmed by another driver’s negligence. However, the injuries suffered in motorcycle accidents could be more serious as a result of the lack of barriers available to protect those from more traditional and heavier vehicles. One man recently lost his foot as a result of such an accident.
The incident occurred one afternoon in mid-March. According to reports, a 75-year-old woman was driving a small truck north on a New Mexico roadway. Unfortunately, she allegedly struck a southbound motorcycle driven by a 60-year-old man.
The man reportedly suffered serious injuries to his leg as a result, resulting in the loss of his right foot. The driver of the truck now faces criminal charges. Charges include driving left of center and leaving the scene of an accident, among others.
While the victim in this case is reportedly eager to return to riding his motorcycle, it is hard to determine at this time how his life will ultimately be altered as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident. Some victims of motorcycle accidents have been unable to return to their previous activities, including employment, because of injuries they suffered at the hands of another driver’s negligence. Many in New Mexico who have found themselves in a similar situation have chosen to file a personal injury claim against the responsible parties. A successfully argued case could result in an award of damages to help cope with the emotional, physical, and financial ramifications created by the accident and their injuries.
