Nursing home neglect, abuse claims may be filed in certain cases

People who place their loved ones in nursing homes naturally expect their family members to be taken care of in a reasonable manner. At times, however, nursing homes fail to fulfill this duty. Traumatic brain injury, or TBI, is a type of injury that impacts millions of Americans, including many in New Mexico, each year. Specifically, nearly 2.5 million visits to the emergency room were tied to TBI in 2010, and brain injury contributed to over 50,000 deaths. A serious accident, such as a fall or a car crash, could result in brain injuries.

Alleged nursing home neglect caused patient's choking death

When a loved one in New Mexico is hurt or dies while under the care of nursing home staff, this can be grounds for taking legal action. One man in another state recently passed away from choking while being taken care of in a nursing home. The man's family has decided to file a nursing home neglect suit against the facility.

Man suffers laceration due to alleged nursing home neglect

When a loved one in New Mexico is injured at a nursing home, depending on the circumstances, the nursing staff responsible for taking care of him or her may be held responsible for the injuries. In one recent out-of-state case involving alleged nursing home neglect, a Certified Nursing Assistant was charged with felony criminal neglect (two counts) after an elderly male resident of a nursing home was reportedly discovered with a deep cut in his leg. The injured resident is 79 years old.
