Man files nursing home neglect claim after suffering infections

When a nursing facility in New Mexico violates laws on nursing home care, a patient may end up suffering injuries or dying. In one case in another state, a man claimed that the nursing home that cared for him was negligent when working with him. He has thus decided to file a nursing home neglect lawsuit against the facility.

The man said he stayed at the nursing facility between March of 2012 and September of 2013. According to the claim, staff at the nursing facility did not monitor his urinary catheter. They also allegedly neglected their duty to take care of the man's gastric tube.

The man said the gastric tube became infected as a result of the staff's carelessness. In addition, the medical staff did not take the necessary steps to prevent pressure ulcers from developing on his body. These ulcers reportedly also became infected when the man was at the nursing facility. The facility has been accused of not acting in line with the state's nursing home care act. As part of his lawsuit, the man is seeking a jury trial as well as damages of over $50,000.

Whenever a nursing facility in New Mexico does not exercise a reasonable degree of care and causes a patient to suffer harm, this facility may be held accountable. A nursing home neglect case can be successfully fought if liability is established through competent proof that is accepted by the court. Financial damages achieved from such a case may help to cover medical expenses tied to the neglect incident.
