The Military’s Approach To Permanent Damages From Brain Injury

A traumatic brain injury is nothing that anyone expects to experience, and it is not usually until a family member suffers one that New Mexico residents begin to learn about them. Unfortunately, permanent damages associated with brain injuries, even mild ones, can arise after someone was injured in a foreign war. They are also suffered by car accident victims — even some who were only involved in a minor crash.

Over the years, healthcare professionals working with military veterans have put together a great deal of insight and knowledge regarding brain injury cases. For example, we now know that a mild brain injury could actually be present even when a brain scan does not indicate the damage. Also, typical symptoms alone cannot always be utilized to diagnose a brain injury accurately.

Brain injuries are particularly prevalent among car accident victims. People who receive a direct blow against their head from a fall are also at risk of significant injury. Brain injury victims receive various forms of advice from doctors in order to speed up the healing process and to ensure that they do not suffer more severe consequences. Some of the advice may include avoiding caffeinated beverages. Doctors may also advise that patients get as much rest and sleep as possible and stick to a daily timetable and eating routine.

New Mexico residents who suffer permanent damages relating to a brain injury may wish to consider whether any business or person is to blame for that injury. If an accident happened due to the negligence of another person, for example, victims may be entitled to seek restitution under the law. Any financial damages awarded as the result of a successfully presented claim could be vital to the injured victim being able to pay for the medical care and rehabilitation services required for a full and complete recovery.
