Paralyzed Woman Sues Gm Over Serious Injury

A young paralyzed woman was burned while riding in the backseat of a Chevrolet Suburban. Unbeknownst to her, the seat warmer on her seat had been activated. She fell asleep and woke up the next morning with a serious injury to her skin. The incident, which happened in 2012, resulted in a palm-sized blister on her backside. Although this case did not occur in New Mexico, numerous individuals are hurt by automotive defects in this state as well.

The 26-year-old paralyzed woman, who is numb to the sensation of hot and cold from her waist down, suffered third-degree burns on her buttocks. The burns were so severe that they required surgery and months in bed before fully healed. The young woman said she would not wish the tortuous experience on anyone.

The injured woman has since commenced a lawsuit against General Motors, the manufacturer of the automobile. GM was accused of failing to test the seat heaters in the car to make sure they do not reach dangerous, skin-burning temperatures. She requested an unspecified level of damages, including money for future and past medical costs, noneconomic damages, and other financial losses.

Automobile defects can cause all types of serious injury and — as occurred with the burned woman in this case– they do not always involve a car accident. New Mexico residents who suffer serious injury in a car accident or other type of event caused by an automotive defect have legal options at their disposal to seek financial restitution. Every case is different, but a successfully navigated personal injury lawsuit can be vital in helping victims obtain money to pay for the medical care they require.
