Camp Gives Burn Injury Victims Hope After Serious Injury

A special camp is giving burn accident survivors the confidence they need to heal from their injuries. Most of those who attend Camp Nah Nah Mah are the survivors of burn accidents and were treated for serious injuries at a university medical center. The camp was created by a burn ward nurse and it is held in a state next door to New Mexico.

According to a university student participating in the camp, the children who attend have positive attitudes, listen to instructions, and play great together in team events. Camp Nah Nah Mah is held at a camp facility owned by a division of Boy Scouts of America, and the property is offered free of charge to the organizers of the event. Any other costs are paid for with donations from a leading university and professional firefighter unions so that participants can attend free of charge.

Held over a long weekend from Friday to Tuesday, campers get to participate in group talks, yoga, swimming, and line dancing. They also make Harry Potter-like potion pouches and learn how to cast spells. Other favorite events are a magician, a reptile show, and an owl trainer. The overarching goal of the camp is to empower burn survivors, fill them with unlimited confidence and help them feel like they can conquer the world.

This event is immeasurably positive for burn victims who suffer many challenges during their recovery — including financial ones. Indeed, the cost of medical care relating to a burn injury can be costly due to lengthy medical stays and complex surgical procedures. For this reason, individuals who have suffered a serious injury in burn accidents in New Mexico may wish to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of pursuing a personal injury claim for damages. Just like a summer camp can help empower youngsters and adults alike, a successful personal injury claim can be empowering as a way for victims to seek justice, restitution, and closure relating to their injuries.
