Child who suffered serious injury in DWI crash still recovering

A 7-year-old boy was injured in a tragic accident last Mother’s Day. Following the car crash, he was rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital to receive treatment. He required surgery to correct a serious injury to his jaw. According to his mother, she has not left his side since the accident occurred.

The boy’s mother says that her son was picked up from his grandmother’s house on Mother’s Day. On the drive home, a man who police say was driving under the influence crashed into the vehicle the boy was riding in. His mother says he was only blocks from their home.

Prosecutors have charged the man whose vehicle crashed into the boy’s car with DWI, in addition to DWI with bodily harm. The driver must now face those charges in court and the possibility of serious punishments if he is convicted. According to an attorney who is representing the man, he was employed as a fireman for about five years until he recently resigned from the position.

As the young child who suffered serious injury in this New Mexico car crash continues to recover, his family will have to face the steep medical bills for the surgery and care he has received. Those costs could be difficult for them to pay. However, should they wish to pursue a personal injury claim against the man who was apparently responsible for the crash, it could be a way for them to recoup some of those financial losses. While the final outcome of a personal injury lawsuit cannot be guaranteed, if the case is strong and the facts are clear, it may be possible to reach a favorable out-of-court settlement in the matter.
