Another life has been taken in a tragic New Mexico car accident. A sport utility vehicle was hit in the rear by a pickup truck on Highway 62. A passenger riding in the SUV, who was the husband of the female driver, was killed in the accident. Fatal car accidents like this one happen every day, and they are understandably tragic for the victims and their families.
The female driver was airlifted to a hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. The male driver who rear-ended them was also taken to the hospital for treatment. It has not been specified who is deemed to have been at fault in this event, but it does not appear that alcohol played a factor.
Also, there was one more accident, which occurred while emergency responders were tending to the victims and the first accident scene. New Mexico State Police say that a Highway Department was struck by another man’s vehicle. The Highway Department truck had been deployed in response to the first crash.
In the second event, the driver apparently neglected to stop at a traffic control device while he was driving his vehicle along the east side of Highway 62. The man’s failure to stop resulted in him colliding with an unoccupied New Mexico Highway Department vehicle. Fortunately, no further deaths or injuries were reported from this second event.
New Mexico State Police have determined that the first accident reported here was caused by speeding and inattention to the road. While it has not been specified who may have been at fault in this accident, it is likely that the female SUV driver who was injured will have the ability to pursue a personal injury action to recover compensation for her injuries, in addition to a wrongful death claim with respect to the death of her husband. While no amount of monetary compensation will ever be enough to replace the loss of someone dear, a personal injury/wrongful death claim may be a way for family members to achieve a sense of justice and closure in the matter. Moreover, injured victims of car accidents can receive much-needed financial assistance to pay for medical treatment and finance their recovery process.
