Caela attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, graduating summa cum laude, with a B.A. in Political Science. She received her law degree from the University of New Mexico in 2012, graduating magna cum laude and Order of the Coif.

Upon graduation from law school, Caela worked as an associate attorney at a firm specializing in cases concerning legal malpractice, insurance bad faith, and complex injury. She then worked as a staff attorney for the New Mexico Legislative Council Service, a nonpartisan drafting, legal and research agency for the New Mexico Legislature.

While in law school, Caela participated in the National Environmental Moot Court Competition (quarterfinalist), the National Animal Law Moot Court Competition, and the New Mexico Court of Appeals Appellate Advocacy Tournament (2nd Place). She also received Dean's Award for outstanding contributions to the law school community.
